This is a "pay-as-you-go" experiment with the goal of offering firefly53 students to opportunity to get help with some software or photography concepts or techniques.

The idea is for students to be able to come to the studio and work on some project or concept and get occasional assistance with that work. This is NOT a one-to-one session; there may be multiple people at the studio working on very different projects, and you should be able to work on your own while in the lab, and receive help with what you're working on as time permits.

There is no direct cost associated with the lab; pay what you feel is appropriate for the help you received.

Appropriate things to work on:

  • Lightroom
    • Development module
    • Organizing in the Library module
    • Creating various presets
  • Photoshop
    • Basic layer compositing
    • Help with Selections
    • General Photoshop concepts
  • General exposure concepts
  • Refresher photo concepts
  • Speedlight setup/help
  • General lighting help
  • General photo critique/guidance

INAPPROPRIATE for this lab:
  • Rebuilding a Lightroom library
  • Repairing a Lightroom installation
  • Topics that are completely new to you (for example something covered in a course or workshop, like Photoshop)

You should be able to work mostly on your own for some length of time, or plan to drop-in for 10 or 15 minutes of direct assistance.

This is a lab, and I'm there to help when you get stuck, or if you need some fairly easy concept explained or re-trained. Please do not expect that you will have my undivided attention!

Most lab dates will be a four-hour block of time, and you are free to come and go at any point within that window, respecting that the end time is when I have to pack-up and stop the lab!

If you need more private time to go over more advanced topics, then please arrange for a one-to-one session, which is typically $75/hr.

If you're not sure what you want help with is covered by lab time, contact me and let me know what it is you want help or guidance with.

You should have attended a class or workshop that taught the basics of what you'll need assistance with, or have sufficient experience with the topic that you need help with.

You will need all of the hardware and/or software necessary for working the lab, unless you've made arrangements for firefly53 to supply certain things necessary to work with (speedlights, for example).

Pay what you feel the time was worth to you.
